Retro Diffusion Update for January: Colors & Poses
Retro Diffusion Update for January
There have been a lot of changes since the last dev post! There were some smaller features and updates released in September and December that I didn't feel were big enough to warrant a post, so we'll be talking about those along with the changes made just now!
Short rundown of the changes and fixes:
- Color Style Transfer, a more advanced version of "Palettize" that can more accurately match the color palettes of provided images.
- Pose Editor Menu for importing and editing openpose skeletons for use with controlnet.
- Website API support, so you can generate images using the website through Aseprite.
Here's the more detailed breakdown of all the changes.
Platform Updates
- Color Style Transfer is a way of converting images to new color palettes using a reference image. You can find it in "Sprite" -> "Color Style Transfer"
- Pose Editor Menu is an openpose skeleton editor that you can access from "View" -> "Pose Editor Menu"
This can be used in combination with controlnet text to image to generate characters with specific poses:
- API integration for https://www.retrodiffusion.ai/. You can find these scripts in "Sprite" -> "RetroDiffusion.ai"
This uses the Flux model available on Retro Diffusion's website and generates on our extremely fast servers. All you need to do is make an account, then head to the "Developer Tools" tab and create an API key, then copy it and add it to the local extension from "Help" -> "Retro Diffusion Settings" in the "Site Connection" section.
While we haven't been able to get this larger more powerful model running locally yet, we wanted you to still be able to use it along with all the tools the local extension offers without needing to switch between the website and your pixel art editor constantly.
This model is much more advanced, and can reliably create true pixel art images up to 512x512.
- Standalone model files can be downloaded via the extension from "Help" -> "Retro Diffusion Tools" -> "Download Models"
Performance Improvements
- Improved controlnet adherence at high resolutions.
- Improved neural tool quality at high resolutions.
- "Automatic" palettize operation is 2x faster.
UI Updates
- Prompt "styles" have been renamed to "presets" to avoid confusion.
- Added stylized visual for version display during setup.
- Moved precision selection to settings exclusively.
- Seed option is now always visible.
- Added Retrodiffusion.ai API key section to settings menu.
Bug Fixes
- Fallback to terminal for Linux setup.
- Fixed an issue with spaces in windows username folders.
- Renamed global functions for compatibility with Block Preview.
- Switch to Powershell for GPU detection on Windows instead of WMIC.
- Fixed texture generation size errors.
- Removed unused "General" model in generation settings.
How to Update
To get started updating, head to your Gumroad library and grab the latest .zip file: https://app.gumroad.com/library
If you are coming from the last update, follow the process in this video: https://youtu.be/swmAXylEcKE
If you encounter any issues, do a clean install by following this video: https://youtu.be/Ve80TYpr-mw
What's Next?
We will be migrating off of Gumroad in the coming quarter. This is because Gumroad keeps increasing their fees, and has recently removed Paypal support, and other key features. Don't worry though, you'll be able to transfer your purchase over to our new store at https://www.retrodiffusion.ai/ once it is ready.
